April 20, 1972. After 12 orbits of the Moon, Orion separated from Casper in preparation for powered descent to the surface. Mattingly, in the CSM, undertook a visual inspection of the LM: “You sure look good!” An essential check was that all landing gear was properly deployed. Here, the U.S. flags on the Lunar Rover’s fenders can be seen to the right of the ladder, through the gap in what appears to be a door, but is actually the chassis of the folded Lunar Rover.

Restored with meticulous care, the original NASA photograph presents the lunar module, a symbol of human ingenuity and exploration, suspended in the vast expanse of the darkness of space, creating a stark yet mesmerizing contrast. With a striking blend of cosmic allure and technological marvel, this artwork seamlessly complements any interior, inviting contemplation on the mysteries of the universe and the unyielding spirit that fuels our relentless pursuit of discovery.
